Background
Peekskill is a city in northwestern Westchester County, 35 miles north of New York City along the Hudson River. Originally an early American industrial center with trade along the river, today the city embraces its historical roots and thriving arts community and maintains its pedestrian friendly roots.
The Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan cemented the city’s commitment to community accessible water resources, and part of that master project was to turn Charles Point Industrial Park into Charles Point Pier Park and Fleischmann Pier. Originally constructed in 1938, the pier was a crucial part of the manufacturing of commercially available yeast along the waterfront.
Started in 2019, the city was able to complete the project in 2024 with funding from the New York State Department of State Environmental Protection Fund via the Local Waterfront Revitalization Grant and the Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
