Founded by Dave Murphy Sr., DMA has been serving the lighting and municipal infrastructure industry since 1972 and the transportation industry for 25 years. With 50 years of success, we service our client base with in-depth knowledge of lighting, small cell, traffic, solar and IoT – as well as the new sustainable technologies impacting our municipal, commercial, transportation and utility customers.
We provide a unique integration of lighting, traffic, small cell, solar and IoT elements into planning – accomplishing aesthetically uniform, environmentally efficient projects. Our experience and ability to combine practical and technical insight into specification and design has allowed us to build an enviable client base which includes planners, design firms, utilities, developers as well as cities and municipalities within the Metro-NYC, New Jersey, and Long Island marketplace.

Dave began his lighting career 35 years ago when he joined with his father, the founder and namesake of Dave Murphy & Associates. Dave has spent the last 20 years developing the DMA team and our manufacturer partners to bring clients the absolute best package of products and services the industry has to offer. Dave credits the success of the company to the cornerstone principal that has been the mission of DMA for its 50 years – to maintain an unwavering dedication to customer care that fosters long-term, value-added relationships. Success has enabled DMA to grow and bring together all elements of outdoor municipal infrastructure – lighting/controls, solar lighting and ioT, small cell and traffic structures – to bring even more value to our municipal, commercial, transportation and utility clients.
Darryl joined Dave Murphy & Associates 12 years ago after a long career in the hospitality/residential development business. He supports the entire DMA team in all administrative and operational functions. With his CPA and MBA, Darryl continues to offer DMA’s partners and clients a unique business perspective when tackling the challenges of innovative technology, product migration, energy-saving models, and large system operations. Darryl’s experience helps drive value to DMA and its partners and clients.
Melissa brings more than 39 years of experience in the lighting industry to the team. She began her career in distribution and has spent the last 30 years managing the office operations of Dave Murphy & Associates. From quotations to order management and customer service, Melissa brings the wealth of industry experience that delivers clients and customers the quality support they expect with such a long-term relationship.
William “Woody” Kapp
William “Woody” Kapp began his career with the team at Dave Murphy & Associates three years ago. Today, he is exceptionally adept at prioritizing and supporting client’s specification needs – providing superior service to our clients. Prior to DMA, Woody successfully coached youth and high school hockey while earning a bachelor’s degree from William Paterson University. Since graduation, he has pursued entrepreneurial ventures, gaining first-hand experience in business-to-business sales. Woody brings a creative skill set to DMA and remains dedicated to delivering the highest-quality service to our clients and partners.
Andrew recently joined Dave Murphy & Associates after several years in business-to-business sales as well as the health care industry. He has an MBA and graduated Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Supporting DMA’s sales operations, Andrew looks forward to delivering value to DMA’s partners and clients while supporting DMA’s strong relationships in all facets of municipal streetscape development.
Connie joins DMA with eight years of sales experience in both health care and financial services. She graduated William Paterson University with a bachelor’s degree in economics and international business. Connie’s experience and commitment to high-quality, thoughtful service will benefit our clients and support DMA’s quest to be the best specification house in the markets we serve – as municipal infrastructure demands continue to evolve.
Ron brings over 50 years of experience in the lighting industry to the DMA team. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) in 1971, spent 16 years with Lightning Electric Company, one of the largest electrical contractors in New Jersey and started his own Rep agency (Metro-Tech Sales) in 1988. Ron relies on his years of experience during which he has developed relationships with contractors, distributors, consultants, state agencies and manufacturers to provide the best possible service to all parties. The key to Ron’s success is his understanding that communication and follow up are key and that the adage that “if it can go wrong, it will” must be continually addressed to avoid as many problems as possible.
Ron brings close to 20 years of outdoor lighting sales experience to the DMA team. He graduated from Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science majoring in Computer Science. Since that time Ron has held sales and sales management positions before entering the Lighting industry with Metro-Tech in 2003. His decades of sales knowledge and experience has enabled him to establish valuable relationships with key players in the lighting industry. Ron is a devoted family man with a wife, two children and three grandchildren. They are the focus of his life outside of business & the center of his world.
Scott began his career more than 22 years ago in the lighting and infrastructure business. Specializing in the DOT Sector, Scott brings not only exceptional product knowledge to DMA but also well-developed, strong relationships with his clients including state agencies, distributors and specifiers. Scott manages projects from quotation to fulfilment, including order management and customer service to provide a seamless and positive experience.
Peter brings to DMA over 13 years of experience in steel and aluminum fabrication and distribution for highway, bridge, traffic and lighting applications. With a background in small business operations, Peter offers DMA and its clients a diverse skill set and approach to relationships and project management. A personable and collaborative attitude, accompanied by excellent communication skills, enables him to resolve issues before they become problems. Peter is excited to play to his strengths in specifications and contracts and is looking forward to supporting DMA and its clients.
