Background

Jersey City is the second-most populous city in the state of New Jersey. Jersey City covers nearly 15 square miles of land throughout Hudson County and sits at the center of the metropolitan region, directly across the Hudson River from New York City.

The Coles Street Redevelopment Master Plan began in 2000 and from concept plan to construction, Jersey City revised the plan to develop a cohesive streetscape, which over time further developed Jersey City, New Jersey through expansionary measures, converting historic industrial buildings into residential towers. A leading City of Hudson County, Jersey City continues sustainable and inclusive growth and includes a uniform approach to street lighting, in conjunction with the utility and city development teams.

As the City of Jersey City, NJ continues to grow, the city continues to expand its street lighting and park lighting. Coles Street Park utilizes the PSE&G Outdoor Lighting Program for Park Lighting, and Jersey City elected to have additional municipally owned and maintained park lights. This enables the city to control the park lights around the amphitheater to dim and brighten the park during its free bi-monthly summer concerts.

Stay tuned for the latest addition to the Coles Street Redevelopment, the Light Garden, which integrates color-changing, remotely controllable Color Kinetics Lighting, along with area lighting, offering a safe lit passage and improved public spaces.
